Anu Menon, originally from Kerala, grew up in Chennai. A student of the London School of Drama, Anu has been part of several theatrical productions in India. Anu Menon studied at the London School of Drama, and moved to Mumbai to pursue her first love – the stage. For eight years she was better known as her alter-ego VJ Lola Kutty on channel V, a character she created, who was the anti-thesis of the cool. A VJ sari-clad, hair festooned with flowers and prominent glasses along with a thick Malayali accent. In the show she interviewed Bollywood celebrities and Lola Kutty became a runaway hit and ran for several seasons. As Lola Kutty she has even interviewed stars on the Red Carpet at the IFFA awards in Yorkshire, England.
Her stage credits include Lillete Dubey’s Sammy, Raell Padamsee’s Noises Off, Divya Palat’s A Personal War (that won at the Edinburgh Theatre festival) Rage’s One on One – part 1&2 and Qtp’s God of Carnage. Anu Menon does stand up comedy as well and opened for Brad Sherwood and Colin Mochrie of Whose Line is it Anyway fame during their India tour.
She has co-written and performed a two-woman sketch show called Rinse Cycle, and even a radio play for the BBC and French television. She has acted in offbeat films Quick Gun Murugan, Raat Gayi Baat Gayi, Amit Sahni ki List and did a special appearance in Shah Rukh Khan’s film Happy New Year. Her dream is to do a shampoo commercial or item number!
