Poetry with Prakriti Festival (2017)

About

‘Poetry with Prakriti’ is an annual festival featuring eminent and emerging poets, each presenting four different readings of their poems to small, intimate audiences at several venues across the city – schools, colleges, cafes, IT parks, green public parks, shops, galleries, boutiques, banks and other commercial establishments. The festival is scheduled everywhere, to coincide with the famed ‘Chennai Season’.

Poetry with Prakriti Festival LogoThe aim of the Poetry with Prakriti festival is to get poets from varied backgrounds to read and share their poetry in various languages at different locations across the city. This allows multiple groups of people to enjoy creative expression rendered through poetry.

Performance - Lullabies and Laments: Experiments in Music and Poetry by Sikkil Gurucharan and Archana Venkatesan.
Time: 06:30 PM Venue: TAG Centre

Lullabies and Laments is an experiment on translation, in translation, of a translation process informed by Indic reading, interpretive and performative practices. Contrary to most translation practice, which fixes the text, in our performance, it is rendered fluid, flexible, supple—words can be split, rearranged, excised, built upon. Our translation today moves between melody and word, between Tamil and English, and is guided by dialog and improvisation. The performance brings together a male and female voice to explore how male poets use the female voice and female genres such as laments and lullabies, to speak of love, longing, desire and devotion.

Performance - Songs of the Heart: Profane Love / Sacred Love by Akadêmia.
Time: 06:30 PM Venue: Alliance Francaise of Madras

Songs of Heart is a dialogue between Western Renaissance Music and Indian Classical Poetry on Love, Sacred or Profane.
